Ralista is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that is part of the benzothiophene compound class. The biological effects of Raloxifene are primarily facilitated through its interaction with estrogen receptors. This interaction triggers the activation of specific estrogenic pathways while inhibiting others. Therefore, Raloxifene functions as a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM).

Raloxifene lowers bone resorption and diminishes biochemical markers of bone turnover to levels typically seen in premenopausal women. These effects on bone health are evident as reductions in both serum and urine levels of bone turnover markers, decreased bone resorption indicated by radiocalcium kinetics studies, increased bone mineral density (BMD), and a lower incidence of fractures. Additionally, Raloxifene influences lipid metabolism by lowering total and LDL cholesterol levels without raising triglyceride levels, while total HDL cholesterol levels remain unchanged. Preclinical research indicates that Raloxifene acts as an estrogen antagonist in uterine and breast tissues. Clinical trial findings (with a median follow-up of 42 months) suggest that raloxifene does not exhibit estrogen-like effects on the uterus or breast tissue.

The recommended dosage is one 60 mg Ralista tablet per day, which can be taken at any time without consideration of meals.

Ralista is not recommended for lactating women or those who are or could become pregnant, as it may pose risks to the fetus if taken during pregnancy. Additionally, Ralista is contraindicated for women with a current or past history of venous thromboembolic events, such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and retinal vein thrombosis, as well as for those known to be hypersensitive to Raloxifene or any other ingredients in the tablets.

If you forget to take a dose of Ralista, simply skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at once.

The safety of Ralista in treating osteoporosis was evaluated in a large multinational placebo-controlled trial involving 7705 patients. Common side effects associated with Raloxifene treatment were hot flashes and leg cramps. Most side effects reported during the study were mild and did not require stopping the treatment. Other side effects included infection, migraine, nausea, myalgia, insomnia, rash, conjunctivitis, and vaginitis.
